Tofu stew in lemon and maple syrup sauce is a great alternative to meat, light, tasty and healthy. In fact, tofu is a good source of vegetable protein, and together with lemon, spices and maple syrup it takes on a very tasty sweet and sour flavor.

Accompanied with venus rice and vegetables, it is a perfect healthy and flavorful one-pot meal.

Tofu stew in lemon sauce and maple syrup

Ingredients

  • 150g of pressed tofu
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 generous tablespoon of maple syrup MapleFarm Pure Maple Syrup – Dark BIO
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 lemon with edible peel
  • salt

Instructions

  • Cut the tofu into 1-cm cubes and marinate in the soy sauce for at least 15 minutes.
  • Then transfer it to a plate with the cornstarch and turn it over so that all the cubes are well floured.
  • Brown the tofu in a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil until golden brown on all sides; set aside.
  • In a small pan brown the garlic in a tablespoon of oil, then add the spices, juice, grated lemon peel, and maple syrup. Cook a few minutes over low heat.
  • Dissolve cornstarch in a tablespoon of sauce, then pour this mixture into the sauce itself and let it thicken over low heat.
  • When it is thick and sticky, pour it over the tofu cubes.
  • Serve hot accompanied by boiled venus rice and steamed or raw vegetables
